The proposition

Upgrade the property.Protect the rental income.Plan before the deadline.

House upgrades can be part of a wider energy-efficiency plan. The exact measures needed should be determined from the property’s EPC and a qualified assessment.

The EPC timeline has changed — and early action matters.

October 1, 2029, is a transition deadline rather than a compliance deadline. If a rental property gets an EPC rating of C under the current system before 1 October 2029, that rating is “grandfathered in” and remains valid for compliance until the certificate expires (up to 10 years).
